There are four stages to wine tasting:
Look: Hold the wine glass up, check for color depth which is a clue to density and saturation of the wine. You can also tell the kind of grapes used and the wine’s age.
Smell: Sniffing helps identify the different aromas; fruits, flowers, herbs, spices and vegetables as well as other scents.
Taste: Take a sip, let it linger on the tongue. The tongue will detect the sweetness and texture of the wine. After swallowing, make sure to note its lingering taste (aftertaste).
Conclusion: This is simply your judgment. Did you like the wine? Was it unique? Much alcohol? Was it acidic? Would you like to have another drink?
Wine tasting is very much fun and you don’t even have to be a connoisseur to do it! Try it at your leisure, and sharpen your palate.
